What Can I Say?

It's really cold out. First really ridiculously cold day of the year and I nearly froze to death at the train station (even with my wool socks and fancy legwarmers on). I dressed as I used to in Montana, with fleeces, scarves, winter squall jacket, just in case we get some of the lake-effect snow that's due in the area tonight. Chicago is such a casual place, but I still saw people out without hats, and one dude without a coat even. Where do these people come from? Are they all from somewhere like the great white north? I'm usually a pretty warm-bodied person, and have to shed layers throughout the day, but lately I've grown prone to shivering at my desk, and wishing I could type with my gloves on. Then, of course, I do things like burn my tongue on coffee I just poured myself. Maybe I should just exist in a lukewarm environment. Something not above or below 70 degrees. I'll just find an indoor pool somewhere and live out my days sitting in the shallow end, reading a book. That sounds pretty good right now. Except for the pruny fingers I'll get. Ew.

On another note, I wrote most of my Christmas cards last night. Have to mail them still, and part of me wants them to have the Chicago postmark, not Evanston, so I can't mail them from work. Of course, this could lead to me carrying them around in my bag for 3 weeks. Hmmm. I'd better mail them at lunch.

Just a few more purchases, and I'll be done with my Christmas shopping too, which rocks since I have to ship most everything. It's very hard to go from a last-minute, throw-it-in-a-bag kind of shopping to all this prepared, wrapped, packed and shipped kind of shopping. Am I becoming more responsible? Or do I just know what I'll be likely to put off till the very end. Maybe a little of both there.

Link of the day? The Problem with Winter Boots. I {heart} shoes.
